Live with Carnegie Hall: National Youth Ensembles

Unable to do their typical world tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Youth Ensembles, a program of Carnegie Hall presented a digital concert. We recorded 3 ensembles over 2 days at SUNY Purchase’s Performing Arts Center. After the shoot, I had about 48 hours to piece together all of the various takes from the recording sessions. It was a quick turnaround to deliver the final music segments to Carnegie Hall’s video team so they could be integrated into their live stream. The program went live on YouTube on July 24, 2021.

The extraordinary young musicians of Carnegie Hall’s national youth ensembles—the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA), NYO2, and NYO Jazz—represent the future of the country’s orchestral and jazz traditions. After being unable to gather in the summer of 2020, these three ensembles convene this July at Purchase College outside New York City. Their three weeks of training and music making culminate in this streamed event.
