New York Times: “To the Rescue This Year: The People Who Put Orchestras Online”
I got a call recently from the BSO Press Office that they wanted to put me in touch with a reporter from the New York Times about an upcoming article. Of course, I said yes! I had a nice conversation with the reporter and a few days later, the BSO had a photographer follow me around during the setup for that day’s recording session to capture what I was doing.
They wanted to do a story about how the classical music landscape changed so much during the pandemic. Not being able to have in-person concerts, it was an extreme challenge as orchestras worldwide needed to reinvent how they delivered their content to their patrons. The BSO had a head start compared to most organizations as they had already brought me onboard and we built out the control room years before the pandemic. But as I said in the article:
“We went from being a nice addition to the concert to being the concert,” Mr. Cardley said in an interview. “We became a television studio overnight.”
The article just released and I’m featured along with BSO CEO Mark Volpe. They also spoke with a few other orchestras about how they have navigated the pandemic.
You can find the whole article over at the New York Times website.
